Wayne brought with him from his first breath a spirit forged by the city’s relentless energy and hope.
Wayne Edward Horton, born on August 21, 1955 in the teeming heart of New York, New York, brought with him from his first breath a spirit forged by the city’s relentless energy and hope. On July 31, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wayne drew his last breath, quietly closing a chapter of resilience, determination, and devotion that left those who loved him forever changed.
To speak of Wayne is to remember not only his journey but the countless lives he touched along the way. Though his hands were often busy—guiding a wheel as a Professional Driver for Homewood Suites, making certain that guests and travelers arrived safely—Wayne found his true direction in the enduring bonds of family.
Cherished husband to Matilda Horton, Wayne was her steadfast companion, sharing both dreams and heartaches with grace, laughter, and tenderness. Together, they navigated life’s unpredictable roads, finding solace in each other’s company and courage in their shared commitment to family.
Wayne was a proud father, succeeded by his loving children: Wayne Blackwell, Wayne Horton, Jr., Edwyna Horton, Muriel Horton, and Nirvana Horton. Each child carries a part of his character—his warmth, integrity, and humor. Under his guidance, the Horton family thrived, grounded in love’s unwavering foundation and inspired by the example he set.

Wayne’s legacy extends through his sisters, Edwyna Jomes and Catherine Randolph. Bonds of siblinghood shaped his youth and matured into lifelong friendships—places of refuge, laughter, and mutual understanding that quietly but profoundly shaped the contours of his life.
As a High School Graduate, Wayne understood the value of honest effort and the significance of showing up—for work, for loved ones, for the moments that mattered. His career as a driver for Homewood Suites was marked by reliability, pride in his craft, and a generosity of spirit toward all those he served.
Life called Wayne from the bustling avenues of New York to the historic streets of Philadelphia, and wherever he was, he brought a rare kindness that lingered in the memory of friends and strangers alike.
