Larry Gillis Obituary

Larry Gillis was born on September 25, 1950, to the late Bobby Williams and Virgie Williams. He was the eldest of his seven siblings.

Larry was raised in North Philadelphia, and he was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. Larry attended McIntyre Elementary School and he graduated from Simon Gratz High School. Larry was raised in a Christian household, but he often spent more time with his friends in the neighborhood who were from the village.
Larry was affectionately known to his friends as "Solo." Larry enjoyed cooking, and he was known to make the best biscuits. Larry was also known as a great leader and many of his friends enjoyed being in his presence. Larry had a love for dogs. Especially, his dog named "Pepsi" and he loved Pepsi!. "Pepsi" was very protective and she did not allow anyone to get too close to him.
In 1966, Larry and Evelyn met and they dated for a couple of years. On February 25, 1968, Larry was united in Holy Matrimony with Evelyn Green. To this union they were blessed with two daughters, Tina and Kenya Gillis.
In addition to his parents, his sons: Larry "Boo" Fife and Kenyatta both preceded him in death.
On November 20, 2021, Larry received his wings and was called home to be with the Lord.
Larry leaves to mourn, his children: Tina and Kenya Gillis, Shahied Thompson, Yenda Thompson, Wadeeah Thompson, Sheena Thompson, and Brite Alexander; his brothers: Bruce Gillis, Royal Williams, Duane Williams, Andre Williams, and Greg Williams; his sisters: Virginia Williams, and Patricia Williams, his niece, Kiyyah; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
