In Loving Memory of Dr. Joseph Machibi Mandong Jang
His Life and Legacy
Dr. Joseph Machibi Mandong Jang was born in 1953 in Manjahota. He was a Christian man who believed strongly in faith, family, education, and helping others. Dad was a man who truly valued education. His educational journey began in Nigeria and continued after he moved to the United States in January 1983. He worked hard throughout his life to further his education, eventually earning his First School Leaving Certificate, West African School Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Master of Business Administration, and Ph.D.
Before coming to the United States, Dad worked at Arewa Textile Ltd. in Kaduna, Nigeria, where he served as a Store Manager from 1969 to 1983. After moving to the United States, he continued building his career and was hired by Parkway in 1986, where he worked as a manager until 1999. His love of learning eventually led him into teaching. He worked with and taught students at institutions including Devry university, Pierce College, Penn State-Abington, and Cheyney University. He spent a significant part of his academic career as an adjunct professor at Cheney University.
While earning his Ph.D. was one of his greatest accomplishments, Dad's greatest achievement was being able to share what he had learned with others. He cared deeply about education and teaching young people. He wanted his students to learn, grow, and have opportunities to create better futures for themselves. Teaching was more than a job for him it was a way for him to make a difference.
But Dad was more than his education, degrees, and career. He enjoyed cooking, listening to music, reading and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed being around the people he loved and appreciated the simple moments that brought people together. His Christian faith was also an important part of his life. Those who knew and loved Dad will remember him in their own special ways the things he taught us, the conversations we shared, the meals, the music, the laughter, and simply having him there.
Dad leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Nwankechinyere Jang, along with other beloved family members, loved ones, and friends. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Although we will miss him deeply, we are grateful for the life he lived, the knowledge he shared, the people he touched, and the memories he left behind.May he rest peacefully in God's loving arms.
